What if a female joined the New York Mets?

Would there be more media attention, more fans? Would she have to use a serperate locker room, or share one with the rest of her teammates? If she clearly had the talent, would she even be allowed in the game? How do you think players would react? Basically, just give me your opinion on a female joining the New York Mets. Super Sara, what is the name of the girl who struck out Babe Ruth?

  1. I think there would be more media attention if a female joined any team.
  2. Not going to happen.
  3. more media attention, more women fans, and yes she would be allowed to play b/c there has already been a woman play MLB and strike out Babe Ruth.
  4. not going to happen women have their sport in softball like men have theirs in baseball i dont think there will ever be a woman in the mlb because if she was that good to be in the league then she will be getting so many offers to play for the USA softball team
  5. No woman ever struck out Babe Ruth in a real MLB game. She would have to be pretty athletic to earn a spot on the Mets. What if tomorrow when you woke up the sky was purple and the grass was red?
  6. As a player? Won't happen. Well, shouldn't say "won't" as though it's impossible, it's just extremely, extremely unlikely. The last time a woman appeared in a major league uniform, I believe, was when Babe Diedrickson pitched a couple of innings in an exhibition game back in the '30s. And, she was already about as good as any female athlete in any sport before her. As a front office type? I don't think anyone would even blink over that anymore. They shouldn't, anyway. Women may not be as physically capable as men at the top levels of competitive sports but they are certainly as mentally capable of doing the things that build a successful franchise.
  7. bubbaxriley - if a female joined the New York Mets they would probably move out of 2nd place and into 1st place in the National League East.
  8. No chance, women can't compete at that level.
  9. It just isn't going to happen. We might see a female GM someday, but not a player.
  10. Keith Hernandez would have a heart attack. Obviously, any team with a female player would get a ridiculous amount of media attention and would enjoy increased ticket sales. Just as obviously, it is never going to happen. You might as well ask what the reaction would be if an alien or minotaur played for the Mets.
  11. shhhh, they are trying to keep that move secretive
  12. There would be more media attention for the Mets than the Yankees.
  13. At least she'd fit in with the mets.. whiney and always has a funk, once a month
  14. Thered be much media attention weed forget about Favre
  15. Her name was Jackie Mitchell, she stuck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig during an exhibition game http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackie_Mitchell_(baseball_player)
  16. the mets already fill up shea if they are playing good, they wouldnt get more fans, but obviously more media attention, it would probably even be an international news (not big internationally obviously, just something that is mentioned) and there was a woman who struck out babe ruthe, dont know her name but it was on a show on fsn one day it will never happen anyway
  17. ahhhhhhhhhhhh that would be scary
  18. There would be an outcry. The majority of guys who follow the sport would not be happy, and I'm sure some players wouldn't be either. It won't likely happen, but it's a good question.
  19. Of course they would get more media attention, and fans as well would flock to the ballpark for the novelty of it. I'm sure that arrangements would be made for separate facilities for her to showered, get dressed, etc. I'm not sure the players would be all that accepting. When and if women are going to play in MLB, I think that they better be much better then most of the current players. if a woman were to perform even at an average level, most everyone would say she was only there as a publicity stunt. If a woman is good enough to make the team, obviously she should be allowed to play. But I'm afraid that whoever the first woman is, she will face unbelievable pressures, probably similar to what Jackie Robinson faced. She better not only be a helluva ballplayer, she better be pretty strong emotionally as well. And to clear up a slight misconception above - The woman that Super Sara is referring to is Jackie Mitchell. While she is correct that she did strike out Babe Ruth (and Lou Gehrig immediately after), she was not a major league pitcher. She instead was a pitcher for the 1931 Chattanooga Lookouts, a Double-A minor league team. The game this happened in was an exhibition game. So, I'm sorry to say, there has never been a woman who played in the Major Leagues.
